ABOUT
Dr Gabi Anderson-Courtney is an exosociologist, researcher and writer whose work explores the social, cultural, ethical and psychological implications of contact with non-human intelligence.
For decades, public discussions surrounding extraterrestrial life have focused on a single question: Are we alone?
Exosociology asks a different question.
If humanity were to discover intelligent life beyond Earth, how would individuals, governments, religions and institutions respond? How would such a discovery reshape our understanding of ourselves, our societies and our place in the universe?
The First Contact Project was created to explore these questions through research, analysis and informed speculation. Rather than focusing on extraterrestrial beings themselves, the project examines humanity's readiness for one of the most significant discoveries in history.
Dr Anderson-Courtney's academic background in exosociology provides a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities that may emerge in a future first-contact scenario. Her work draws upon sociology, psychology, communication theory, ethics and human behaviour to explore how societies respond to profound change and uncertainty.
Through articles, essays and public engagement, The First Contact Project seeks to encourage thoughtful discussion about humanity's future and the possibility that we may not be alone.
