The First Contact Project

Exploring humanity's response to one of the most profound discoveries in history.
What would happen if humanity discovered it was not alone?

Humanity has spent decades asking whether extraterrestrial intelligence exists.
Discussions surrounding extraterrestrial intelligence have traditionally focused on a single question: Do aliens exist?

Far less attention has been given to an equally important question: What happens next?

How would governments respond? How would religions adapt? How would global institutions communicate with the public? How would individuals process a discovery that fundamentally alters humanity's understanding of itself?
Exosociology explores these questions by examining the social, cultural, ethical and psychological implications of contact with non-human intelligence.
The First Contact Project examines humanity's readiness for that possibility through research, analysis and informed speculation.

Could humanity recognise an alien intelligence?
Would religions survive first contact unchanged?
Who speaks for Earth?
Would governments tell the public everything they know?
Could human rights apply to a non-human species?
How would society react in the first 24 hours?
